Moonraker and Talesmith, have been jointly commissioned through their SPV FLYRIDE, by P.E.L Creative to create a giant screen immersive film experience. The film is being specially made for a brand new visitors’ centre being built at the Changbaishan National Park in China by Legend Tourism Investment . It will offer a unique 4D perspective on an environment rich in natural history in this area of outstanding natural beauty.
Moonraker*, the world-class independent VFX company founded by award-winning VFX Supervisor Simon Clarke and Talesmith, the high-end factual production company, have come together to set-up FLYRIDE, a Special Projects Vehicle to enable them to produce this five-minute film with a five-minute pre-show that uses smart suspension seat technology to place the audience ‘inside’ a four storey, 4K Dome screen. The film will tell the story of the natural world in a single aerial flight. With pitch, yaw, roll, surge, sway and heave, and physical effects like mist, wind and scent, the FLYRIDE audience will experience the aerial wonders of the National Park as if flying like a bird.
The film looks to explore the relationship between the creatures that dwell at Changbaishan National Park and their environment. The journey will tell the story of the region (at the border between China and North Korea) over the course of a year. It will begin with a Manchu hunter and his hawk as it flies through the park. As we follow the bird, we experience the spectacular Changbaishan mountain in all of its seasons. The film continues as animals help guide viewers on the journey over magnificent peaks and weaving tightly through rocky ravines and verdant forests. The audience is invited to enjoy a fully immersive and sensory experience of the passing seasons and the divine beauty of nature.
Moonraker*, has been commissioned to bring to life the story’s striking visuals through the use of custom VR technology and computer generated VFX, to help create enchantment and the illusion of a seamless flight together with the chair’s sensory motions. FLYRIDE will offer the unique feeling as though you’re truly flying high above the landscape.
Simon Clarke, Creative Director at Moonraker said: “Whether for iPad or IMAX the cinematic beauty and artistry of what we create is always at the forefront of what we do, this project will really be a game changer for the audience as we immerse them into the beauty of the landscape and the invisible magic of our work on a 60 feet screen”.
Martin Williams, Creative Director at Talesmith, commented: “Ambitious projects like this are in our DNA and this is an enormously exciting undertaking, that fundamentally alters the definition of VR. This is where the splendor of cinema and the intimacy of the virtual experience come together - only this time you’ll be able to enjoy a shared family experience”.
Paul Lanham, Founder and Managing Director of P.E.L Creative, added: “We aim to take the Changbaishan visitor on a journey beyond their wildest dreams. With our creative team and the capabilities of the system, we will deliver a truly immersive ride which will push the boundaries of this genre into the realm of fantastic cinema. The narrative will engage the guests with the beauty and history of this truly wonderful place.”
The visual effects will be provided by Moonraker* to help create enchantment and the illusion of a seamless flight and together with the chair’s sensory motions, FLYRIDE will offer the unique feeling as though you’re truly flying high above the landscape.
