    The Americas is an epic 10 part series narrated by Tom Hanks exploring the wonders, mysteries, and fragilities of the most varied landmass on Earth. We were immensely proud to contribute to this historic inaugural partnership between the BBC Natural History Unit & NBCUniversal which was 5 years in the making.

    We designed and developed ground-breaking 3D maps with incredible topographical detail inspired by the graphic beauty of traditional cartography.

    Giving form to the invisible forces that power our planet is no mean feat. Moonraker were thrilled to work on Our Oceans — a five part Netflix docuseries narrated by Barack Obama. The show explores and explains life under the water’s surface, revealing hidden worlds and peeling back the curtain on an aquatic kingdom. And driving this remarkable tale is the global ocean current — the flow of water around our planet that connects every ocean together.

    Simulating a Global Current

    Our main task was to create the visuals for the global ocean current. In developing the stylistic approach we referenced material from NASA and conducted research with oceanographers to gain a deeper understanding of the current and its impact.

    Rollercoaster Ride

    The whole show has a sense of kineticism to it, featuring drone shots and dynamic cinematography. It was important for the global ocean current visualisation sequences to match that same style.

    Title Wave

    Moonraker was also responsible for designing a unique title sequence for each of the five episodes — one that changes how the audience looks at the world and puts each ocean in full view.

    Moonraker were approached by Lightbox and Sky History to conceive and deliver a show open for Gunpowder Siege. Working closely with the team at Lightbox enabled us to turn the project around in a few short weeks, from concept to delivery. We had a blast bringing it to life! Catch it on Sky History now.

    Our title treatment draws inspiration from iconic imagery within the story, viewed through the distortion of prismatic lens effects. Graphic compositions ignite and illuminate the narrative’s central themes of persecution, danger, and violence.

    Moonraker provided title design and VFX work on the project including visualising an octopus’ point of view and dolphins using echolocation to hunt.

    The Earthshot Prize: Repairing Our Planet produced by Silverback for the BBC is an inspiring landmark documentary series that gives us reason to hope for a brighter future on Planet Earth through the five “Earthshots” introduced by Prince William.

    Moonraker were commissioned to produce some of the VFX for the series bringing the solutions to the Earthshots to life in vivid and seamless shots and sequences.

    Moonraker crafted hyperlapse sequences for Queens, bringing the fascinating world of Leafcutter ants to life. We organised and sequenced thousands of images, transforming the ants’ frenetic leaf-trimming and carrying activity into dynamic and mesmerising scenes.

    Spanning seven continents and filmed over three years, Incredible Animal Journeys looks at a planet on the move, putting viewers right into the action of epic migrations that animals make across our planet in search of food, shelter and a mate.
